Fishes!
Oh man!
So, we decided to try out Fuego tonight, the new Mexican/Latin restaurant/nightclub over on Broad st. near Mekong. First off, I had no idea that there was a latino grocery store #2 right near it, almost across the street from latino grocery store #1 on broad. Anyhow, the inside was vast, with a giant wobbly mirror on one wall, and further back in was a bar and more tables and presumably an area for clubbing, which we did not access. Was rather empty (us really being the only people there) until a few people showed up for the bar a bit later. Anyhow, I order fried fish, and I totally got a whole fish, fried. It was even looking at me! Also, it was garnished with cucumber, tomato, lime chunks, onion bits, and a festive radish. Plus, fried rice (with bits of vegetables and chicken), refried beans, and a shredded salad-like pile on plate number 2. And, on plate 3, three soft tortillas. It was very artful and fun and tasty and I even have 1/2 a fishie in my fridge to eat tomorrow. I don't often see artful plate presentation at Mexican restaurants, so I was quite pleased. Also! Maybe because they're new and trying to drum up business, but we got a free apple empanada for dessert, which was quite delightful.
I've come across such a huge range of quality of Mexican restaurants, it's crazy. So I totally need to go back to this place and get more food, especially because they had a few dishes that came with yucca/plantains, very exciting! Also exciting was that our meal, before tip, was $20 (the tip was generous, given the empanada). No ceviche on the menu, but I'll live, somehow.
Tomorrow I will be shopping. I've started hacking up the backyard for future plantlife. I made red curry the other night, decent enough for then but mediocre at best as leftovers. Estha the cat often goes to sleep with me at night, which is cute. I find that covering up the pillows (and the sheets when we remember) so that cats don't hair all over them seems to take care of all of my allergy issues. I just have to remind myself not to rub my face all over the cats.
