I'm not very good at deciding when things are done. When I was in school, generally an art project was done when the deadline rolled around, and that was that. Now, not so much. I've been feeling like I stop working on things too early, so with this thing I figured I'd make myself work alot longer then it then usual.
I can't tell if working much longer on this made it better & more detailed, or simply darker then other things. I think I ended up with more depth at least, which was a defininite aim. For an idea of the timeframe - this was something that I started on just after John and I separated (started it in early august) and I decided it was done slightly more then a month before John's getting married. I don't know if this more about how long it takes me to work on things or how short some people seem to be able to recover and move on from relationships (nope, no bitterness here!) Mind you, I would sometimes go for a month or more without touching this. I need to increase my speed, methinks.
It's oil and glaze, with sand mixed in for fun fun texture, this explaining the wee glints all over the place. One of these days I need to retake some pictures of stuff with a better attempt at lighting setup, as the whole 'light only coming from one direction making one end darker then the other' thing just isn't as aesthetic as it could be. But oh well, good enough for lj.
Oh, and this is what the canvas looked like before I started painting it:
While I do like how the painting came out, I can't help but feel like there was something lost in the translation.
